Additional Notes

This wasn’t Glenn Close’s first run in with little furry four legged creatures. In 1987 she was nominated for “Best Actress” for boiling one in a pot of water in Fatal Attractions.” In this live-action update of the 1961 animated classic, she hams it up to villainous portions in the role of Cruella DeVil- and she loved it. At first, when researching the motivations and underlying character of the evil woman, she “realized I shouldn't put too much into it. It's not complicated. It's this bad person who wants fur.” No judgments, it’s just who she was. She excelled in the role and would later return to reprieve the character in “102 Dalmatians” in 2000.

Costume designer Anthony Powell, who just happens to be cousin of equally famous costume designer, Sandy Powell, enjoyed designing the costumes for the character of Cruella because, unlike the original cartoon character, she was a fashion designer- a sort of “Devil Wears Prada” gone rogue. It allowed him to go even more outrageous in his designs. This outfit plays direct homage to the costume worn throughout the Disney cartoon version. Anthony Powell also designed the costumes for “102 Dalmatians” and received a nomination for “Best Costume Design” for his work on the film.
