Although the film is mostly forgotten, it is considered by some to be Betty Hutton's best performance. In the role of the biggest of vaudeville stars, Blossom Seeley, her singing voice was mellower than in the past, probably because the vocal cord surgery she had undergone. Her acting was also more sedate because the film was almost totally a dramatic role and that was not what the public was used to seeing from her. She ended her film career and mostly left Hollywood after her appearance in this film. Some of it was due to the fact she was demanding that her then husband direct her in films and some of it was due to the fact that because Television was cutting into the movie studio’s business and they were downscaling.
