Mattel was a major producer of the film, trying to get publicity on a new line of toys they were coming out with. Originally they had told the film makers that He-Man could not kill any other human, which was going to be difficult to do on an action film. So "generic robot warriors" were created so that He-Man could smash and subdue them.
