Additional Notes

Welsh-born Peggy Cummins got her start on the London stage at the age of thirteen and five years later was brought to Hollywood by 20th Century Fox to play Amber in the costume romance “Forever Amber.” She was considered too young and not well known enough, so she was replace by Linda Darnell. In murder mystery “Moss Rose” she was cast as a Victorian Cockney music hall dancer, Belle, who uses blackmail to work her way into the family of Charmley manor located deep in the moors and finds the family more that she bargained for.

This costume, designed by Rene Hubert, was designed for a scene where Belle was walking the moors only to discover that she was being watched and kept from leaving the manor. The scene was cut from the final print of the film but is shown in costume test photos and production stills. There is a matching stunt double costume and the label indicates that the costume is worn over a wet suit, so it can be deduced that the character might have ended up in the Moors.
