Additional Notes

Despite what actress and dancer Betty Grable accomplished in films, she will probably always be remembered for the bathing suit pin-up girl during WWII. Grable, herself, was reluctant to stray from the image of the pin up and was insecure in her dramatic acting talents and insisted on being in upbeat outlandish musicals. This Technicolor musical was the final musical she would make at Fox, where she had been one of the big money makers for the last ten years.

The film was another formula, silly, backstage musical where the show’s star and her producer husband break up only to get back together by the last reel. But, it was tremendously successful and the public just couldn’t get enough of the energetic comedic blonde. But, as the public started to loose in the musical genre, her career also started to decline.

The costume designs by William Travilla were extremely colorful to take full advantage of the new Technicolor medium and the halter top poodle skirt that was to become the rage during the 50’s. He would continue to design for the star in her post film career.
