Additional Notes

Richard Gere was known for his smooth sexy style having stared in films like “American Gigolo” “Officer and a Gentlemen” and “Pretty Women.” Few people knew he had the “musical chops” to play the charismatic lawyer in the musical adaptation of “Chicago.” His only insecurity about doing the film was his tap dancing, which he worked on for months to be ready for the scene that features this costume.

Costume designer, Coleen Atwood, dressed Gere’s character in suave suits of the period except for the musical number “All I Care About,” in which he play a shoe shine boy. The costume is a rip-a-way costume and at the end of the number is ripped off. Ms. Atwood won the Oscar for Best Costume Design, 2003 for her work in this film.
