Additional Notes
British actress, Binnie Barnes got her start in silent films and gained prominence in the 1930’s in strong roles as the side kick to the leading star. She had a versatility that was comfortable in dramas or comedies.
The film was a sincere, corny and comedic tribute to the fight of the Australians during World War I & II. Charles Laughton had wanted comedian Gracie Fields to play the part of Aggie, a woman he leaves at the wedding alter. She returns to return to seek her revenge. But his scenes with Barnes turned out to be the highlight of the film.
Irene Lentz, costume designer who is best known only by the name Irene, designed the costumes for the film. This coat is certainly 1920’s.
