Prop Shields from Various Films
Description
Four prop shields purchased at the 20th Century Fox Auction. [580.1] Viking style round shield measuring 30" across"," constructed of fiberglass type material painted brown, flat 1" raised rim, larger inner 4" rim, a cross pattern at center, remaining with a wood grained background, 16 half dome rivets, large black steer's shaped horn is attached at the center of the cross, back has two leather grip straps, one that is broken. Sold by Fox as Victor McLaglen as Boltar, "Prince Valiant," 20th Century Fox, 1954. Similar shield is seen the "The Vikings". [580.2] Viking style round shield measuring 30" across, constructed of fiberglass type material painted brown, flat 1" raised rim, larger inner 4" rim, a cross pattern at center, remaining with a wood grained background and 14 half dome rivets, large wolf's head image is attached to the center of the cross. Probably also in "Prince Valiant." [580.3] Medieval shaped battle shield constructed of gold painted metal framed with a blue painted wood trim with nail head rivets, applied fleur-de-lis center, spear hole at left side. Supposedly from "Prince Valiant" 1957. Costumer tag attached inscribed "1149/10 and "#8". Measures 40" (t) X 22 1/2" (W). [580.4] 47X36; large silver painted metal 11th and 12th century shield with pounded metal edge painted at center with two red with black edged coiled snakes. Measures 47" (L) X 29" (W).
